Amazing Porcelain

View the beautiful Award Winning Porcelain work of Rika Herbst.  If my work is to speak I want it to whisper. In this my aim is to create unique pieces for contemplation and enjoyment. For me trees are a source of wonder, inspiration and delight, and they play a significant role in my work. The shadows cast by the interplay of light is an integral part of each piece and through this I want to give my work a contemporary feel whilst maintaining the quality of the clay. The versatility of paper porcelain gives me the opportunity to push the boundaries of the material and to create further opportunities for exploration in my designs.

Inspiring Watercolours

Paul Roosenschoon was born in the Netherlands, but have been in South Africa since 1953, and made this country his home. He started taking art seriously as a hobby in 1990 and from 2002, when he retired, took it as a serious occupation.

Paul attained the associate ship  with the Watercolour Society of South Africa(AWSSA) during 2008 with the help of then tutor Susan Orpen and all the friends at the WSSA. "My motivation in art is to reflect the beauty of creation to anyone that has the time and inclination to appreciate this beauty. We sometimes don’t stop to see this wonderful creation. I try to put perspective onto my own life... to express my gratitude to be capable of ‘creating and representing’ feelings and impressions of the universe. People are my greatest inspiration to create a work of art," says Paul.

The Venue

Amakoekoe Guest Lodge and Conference Centre is located in Honeydew, Johannesburg where owners André and Sanet Koekemoer officially opened it in August 2002, naming it "Amakoekoe" as an amusing play on their surname “Koekemoer" interpreted as "ama" meaning "the" and "koekoe" as an abbreviation of "Koekemoer".

Amakoekoe Guesthouse is surrounded by carefully maintained, vibrant gardens. In this tranquil paradise, indigenous bird life is abundant, and the unrivalled hospitality makes every stay an unforgettable experience. Unusual Artwork

Three years ago, Sue Lunderstedt began to produce her own art on canvas, using string and paste as her main mediums.  They are mostly sold unframed, although some clients prefer them framed. She adds beads to her art to give them an additional African feel.

Sue is presently working on commissions for individual clients, providing them with an “Art by Design” option, where she custom designs the artwork for them, creating designs and choosing colours to suit their décor.

"My journey has been a very challenging and interesting one.  It has been one of self-teaching, learning, soul searching and great delight," says Sue.
